Robert Wong Announcement

July 30, 2020

It is with much sadness that I inform you that Robert Wong, President/CEO of Associated Mutual Insurance Cooperative, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Robert joined Associated in 2013 ascending to the President/CEO position after the retirement of long-time President/CEO Zane Morganstein. In the past five years under Robert’s leadership, Associated has grown to over $11,000,000 in premium and transitioned from a commercial package writer to a book that is now over fifty percent homeowners.

A Wisconsin native and avid Packers, Bucks, Brewers and Badgers fan, Robert was a proud graduate of Cornell University. Prior to his time at Associated, he started his business career in the hospitality industry moving on to real estate and investment consulting. He found his way into the insurance industry and Sullivan County, NY with Upper Hudson National Insurance Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cinium Financial Services Corporation. He served as Executive Vice President/COO of the parent company and President of Upper Hudson National.

Robert was very active in the community serving on the Boards of Cooperative Federal Credit Union, New Hope Community, the Workforce Development Board of Sullivan County and the Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Irwin Gitlin, Chairman of the Board for Associated Mutual, expressed the following about Robert. “He was first and foremost a gentleman. He touched us all in a positive way. He was someone you knew you could talk to about business, politics, personal matters or anything and have the ear of someone who cared. His friendship was a great prize and his absence will be a loss to all who knew him.”

Robert is survived by his wife Ellen along with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
